President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has said he was extremely disappointed in the disorder that marred the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
The continental showpiece ended in a dramatic fashion, with Senegal players walking-off the pitch for about 17 minutes in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco.
Following Sadio Mane’s intervention, the Taranga Lions returned to pitch to resume the match, and subsequently emerged as winner with a narrow victory.
Midfielder Pape Gueye emerged as the hero after netting a solo to inspire Senegal to victory after Brahim Diaz missed the penalty that had triggered the protest.
At a press briefing in Tanzania, Motsepe condemned the disorder during th3 final, while assuring the world of a smooth operations of future tournament.
“I was extremely disappointed with what happened at the AFCON final in Morocco. That should not happen again and it will not happen again. It was a blemish on a beautiful final we had” he said at CAF’s press briefing in Tanzania.
The 36th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations has been scheduled to take place in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
