The Confederation of African Football has cracked their whip, slapping the Senegalese Football Federation a total of $615,000 for misconduct by players, technical staff and supporters in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The final, held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium ended in a dramatic fashion, with Senegal walking off the pitch for 17 minutes in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco.
After intervention from Sadio Mane, the Taranga Lions returned to resume the match and went ahead to secure the title with a narrow victory after extra-time.
Midfielder Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal after Brahim Diaz missed the penalty that sparked the protest.
Following a review of reports from match officials, CAF imposed multiple fines on the Senegal FA. The federation was fined $300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, $300,000 for the unsporting conduct of players and technical staff, and $15,000 for misconduct related to five players receiving cautions during the match.
Besides, Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has been slapped with a five game ban and a fine of $100,000 for orchestrating the walk-off decision in the final.
The Senegalese Football Federation is expected to consider an appeal against the ruling in the coming days.
