Mr. John Topham, a master woodturner from Canada, is in Ghana at the invitation of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority to identify key areas of supporting industry players with capacity-building programs, to enable them improve on their products for export.
The first stop of his reconnaissance trip was the Central Region, known for handcrafted giant wooden fishing boats, wooden wall hangings and ornaments crafted in the form of birds, fish and other interesting creatures.
His visit coincided with a meeting of CEDECOM stakeholders, where the Abrafo handicraft project was being discussed. John had an opportunity to quickly review existing machinery and offered advice on ways and means to put the machinery to optimum use in their production.
In Mankessim, John also met with a group of woodturners and provided tips on how to keep the wood they use for production safe in order to encourage them to produce more.
