An international Catholic fraternal service organization the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) and their Ladies Auxiliary have donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) worth the sum of Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis ( GHC40,000:00) to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) to distribute to the Church’s Health Facilities.
In March 2020, the National Catholic Secretariat with the blessing of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference made a special appeal to all Catholic organizations, businesses, the faithful and any person who stands in a position to assist one way or the other by way of donating any Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to support Catholic Health Facilities.
Reverend Father Lazarus Anondee, the Secretary-General of the National Catholic Secretariat in Accra, invited all Catholics to donate protective equipment and other medical suppliers to support the 46 Hospitals and the 83 Clinics run by the Church under the National Catholic Health Service in the fight against the pandemic.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2020, Knights of St. John International (KSJI) presented disposable surgical masks, face shields, disposable head covers, disposable gowns, gallons of sanitizers, and liquid soap among others to the Secretariat.
This donation came barely two months after they presented a Cheque of Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 30,000.00) to support the GCBC COVID-19 Fund.
The donation was made at the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) by the Supreme Subordinate President, Major-General Peter Sangber-Dery, and was supported by the Supreme Subordinate President of the Ladies, Noble Sister Eugenia Enyimayew.
Making the presentation on behalf of the Noble Order, Maj-Gen. Sangber-Derby said it was their “widow’s mite of voluntary.
