The Executive Director for Center For Good Governance Promoters Of Ghana, Omanhene Nana Kofi Amankwaa has urged the President, John Dramani Mahama to retain Jean Mensa and her Commissioners as a lot of people, especially from the NDC side are seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her fellow commissioners.
According to Omanhene, retaining the current Commissioners would promote national stability, preserve institutional independence,and advance Ghana’s democratic progress over political expedienary. It should be ensuring that Ghana’s Electoral Commission remains a truly independent institution, free from political interfere.
CGGP-GHANA further urged President Mahama to set a historic precedent by retaining the Electoral Commissioners appointed by his predecessor.
“You have the opportunity to set a historic precedent- one that prevents future Presidents from removing Electrical Commissioners appointed by their predecessors, thereby shielding the EC from undue political influence.
