Charles Opoku has been elected as the Parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming by-election in late June.
Opoku won the primary with 397 votes out of the total valid votes of 536.
His sole contender Freeman Amoah-Kyei got 136 votes.
The party’s internal election comes after Parliament declared the Assin North seat vacant following a Supreme Court ruling on the eligibility of James Gyakye Quayson to occupy the seat.
The Electoral Commission has since scheduled the by-election for Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
Mr. Charles Opoku, prior to the election said “I have marketed myself enough through the number of development projects I have undertaken in the constituency and the excellent working relations I have with my party people and traditional leaders”.
Per my little research, Mr.Charles Opoku is an Engineer at a mining company in Tarkwa.
On the side of Mr. Freeman Amoah-Kyei, is a businessman and entrepreneur who is believed to have been financing the party.
