The National Chairman for the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Ghana, Alexander Yaw Danso, has cautioned parents and guardians to guide and monitor their wards most especially those in the senior High School with issues regarding using mobile phones.
According to him, many students at the Senior High level are exhibiting some ill-mannered behaviours which he believed to be adopted from engaging in activities on social media while in school.
During a telephone interview with Abena Pokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM’s “Efa wo ho” morning show, Mr Danso averred that using of mobile phone is good when they use it for good purpose but some have taken this opportunity to use it for unnecessary behaviours influencing them to go wayward.
Instead of them taking their studies serious, they rather spend much time on their phone taking phonographic videos, naughty photos, among others which are unnecessary hence affecting their academic performance.
Speaking regretfully, the PTA chairman relates that the motive of mobile phone manufacturers was to create greater opportunities for peer to interact with each other in or outside their jurisdiction but the majority of the youth has overturned it by using it to compare live achievements among themselves.
“What hurts me most is the situation whereby some parents see their wards using phones which are unusual of them to buy at their age yet refuse to question them. They rather borrow money from their kids’ whiles they are schooling. So how do they think their wards get the money from? This clearly shows you support your child of their unacceptable behaviours by society if you are found guilty of this. Meaning you are pushing them to attain bad behaviour,” Mr Danso said.
Advising parents on how to reduce negative social media or internet behaviours on their children, Alexander Yaw Danso urged parents to inspect their wards personal belongings such as their school chop box, bags both school and those at home, the kind of dress they put on, the kind of mobile phone they use and know where they got from and the friends they make.
