Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip, shares his opinion that the former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who was removed from office by President Mahama, has every right to appeal to the Supreme Court and the grounds on which she was dismissed from office.
He made this statement on Tuesday, September 30, on Channel One TV in an interview. When Charlotte Osei, the former Electoral Commission Chairperson, was removed under Article 46 procedure, Kweku Baako, the journalist, went to the Supreme Court to contest it.
“In the same way, the Chief Justice can apply to the Supreme Court to challenge the findings and recommendations of the committee — that is her right,” he said.
He again pointed out that even after going through that kind of removal, the issue might not be fully resolved.
“Nobody should assume this is final. Kweku Baako did not succeed in his challenge, but that does not mean the committee’s conclusions cannot be tested in the Supreme Court. They certainly can,” he added.
