The Chief of Nsawam, Nana Kwamena Ansah I, on Thursday convened an emergency meeting at his palace to address escalating tensions between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding parliamentary election results yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Present in the meeting were DCOP Bossman, Eastern South Police Commander, C/Supt. Ebenezer Benson, Municipal Police Commander for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, C/Supt. Guggisberg Mensah, Nsawam Prisons Service, DO2 Alex Akwenyo, Nsawam Fire Service Commander, DSI Hilda Adwoa, Deputy Immigration Commander for Nsawam Municipal Coordinating Director,
Leaders of both political parties and
Traditional leaders.
The meeting, aimed at de-escalating tension and averting potential violence in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality, brought together political leaders, security personnel, and traditional authorities. Nana Kwamena Ansah I called for calm and urged both parties to maintain peace and stability within the municipality.
He specifically appealed to NDC supporters to halt street protests while awaiting the final outcome from the EC.
Additionally, the chief requested that the Eastern South Police Commander intensify patrols in the municipality to ensure public safety.
During the meeting, both NDC and NPP constituency executives were given the opportunity to air their grievances, after which they collectively pledged to uphold peace in the area.
The general situation in Nsawam remains calm, with security agencies maintaining day and night patrols to sustain the peace.
