Protest against a decision by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) allowing Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah, Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, to go unopposed continue to spread across the Constituency.
The latest to join is a group calling itself Concerned Youth of NPP and Stakeholders of Akuapem North. The group is made up of some sub-chiefs in the area.
At a press conference held Tuesday at Mampong – Akuapim and addressed by Christian Ata Asare,-the convener of the group called on the National Executives of the party to rescind the decision or the party risks losing the seat in December election as the majority of the youth have decided to vote “Skirt and Blouse”
According to the group, the disqualification of Lawyer Philip Addison and one Dr. Twumasi Agyei was an unfair and undemocratic decision taken to satisfy the parochial interest of imposing the Member of Parliament on the Constituency.
Lawyer Philip Addison the lead Counsel of NPP 2016 landmark election petition case in the Supreme Court and Dr. Twumasi Agyei an Accountant at Akropong Presbyterian College of Education were disqualified from contesting the incumbent MP during vetting in March this year.
Appeals filed by both for the decision to be reversed were thrown out by the Appeals Committee of the Party.
Many supporters and polling station executives of the NPP in the Akuapem North Constituency have since been raging with anger and protest against the decision.
The angry supporters pushing for Lawyer Philip Addison to go Independent have since pasted his posters to that effect.
