Ghana legend Frimpong Manso has charged Ghanaians particularly the Ghana Football Association to support Black Stars coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor to achieve target.
The former Asante Kotoko trainer who is reported to have agreed a two-year deal with the Ghana FA has been tasked to win the continental showpiece for the country.
Black Stars have failed to win the African Cup of nation since lifting the mundial in 1982.
Despite coming close twice in 2010 and 2015, Ghana lost in the finals to Egypt and Ivory Coast respectively.
But Frimpong Manso in an interview with Happy FM entreated the football association to give ample time to national team coaches to achieve target set for them.
“Black Star coaches should be given time else our aim of winning trophies will be an exercise in futility. We need to exercise patience for our coaches because to win a trophy is not by magic but rather time”
“We need to prepare our team very well and even calling of players is a huge task. We should not set ambitious target for coaches. Akonnor has not been with the team for long and so he will need time to build a team that can win trophies for the country”
“Even asking him to win AFCON comes with a lot of pressure. So I think it is about time we help local coaches because they are now managing the national teams and if we want to help them we don’t need to set audacious target for them with limited time”
