“There is no illegal mining currently ongoing at Mpasatia. We we formerly operating community mining in the previous administration but has stopped after the change of government” Planning Committee member has explained.
Speaking to Bryt fm on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem a day after two illegal Miners were trapped in an abandoned mining pit, on Wednesday, the committee member (name withheld) stressed that the traditional council had earlier banned mining activities in the town before the introduction of the community mining scheme.
Two illegal Miners were found dead on April 1 after the abandoned mining pit collapsed on an unknown number.
However, officials of the police service and NADMO have joined the community in searching for possible persons who may be trapped under the pit.
“As I speak to you now, we have found two bodies of whom one is a citizen, but we have a lot persons from other areas who have come to the community due to mining activities within the area” he stated.
