The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party Nana Obiri Boahene has suggested that the party adopts an electronic nomination form system to allow prospective aspirants to pick and submit forms electronically to help minimize confusion that characterized picking of nomination forms.
“I am suggesting that maybe in 2024 /2028 we can make sure you just go on the internet, to print your forms. It is not only going to be formed for only parliamentary aspirants but should make sure when it comes to constituency elections, you just go and print the forms”
According to him, the increasing reported cases of attempts by some constituency executives denying some prospective aspirants from picking nomination forms threaten the unity of the party with the overall effect of creating apathy against the NPP.
“When these happen it doesn’t auger well for the party at all.2008, we went through hell. Eventually, we found ourselves in opposition. Now we back in power when you talk of four more for Nana, it is not just going to the ballot box to cast the vote but our acts of omission or commission will determine, and NPP must win 2020 and win 2024”
He added “We should be clean, fair, and sincere in handling this exercise. Sometimes when you hear complaints that we don’t get the forms, we fall short of forms-it gives me a headache because we got the same scenario in 2008 and went to the opposition”.
Nana Obiri Boahene has meanwhile instructed all constituency executives of the party across the country that” Whoever comes and wants to pick the forms, they should give the forms out. Selling the forms does not make you vetting committee. The instructions are very simple-sell the forms”.
Nana Obiri Boahene said this when speaking to the media at Suhum Constituency Office of the NPP after Oboafo Kwadjo Asante -a businessman who filed his normal forms in his bid to unseat the incumbent MP Frederick Opare Ansah who is seeking reelection for his fourth term Parliamentary slot.
He admonished the aspirants to campaign in decorum and desist from acts of intimidation and violence.
The Aspirant Oboafo Kwadjo Asante said he is contesting to eventually become MP, to ensure that there is rapid development in the constituency.
“I’m ready to serve. I want to go to parliament so that the name of Suhum constituency will be projected high”
He used the opportunity to condemn invasion of the Church of Rev. James Aboagye, also government appointee at the Suhum Municipal Assembly and a strong supporter of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Opare Ansah, in attempt to beat him up for sharing to the aged in the church, Milo, milk, and bread giving to him by the MP which his supporters thought was inducement to influence delegate hence took the action at his blindside.
“I regret it and condemn it. That is not my nature. That is not my attitude. I telling them [supporter] to remain calm”
