Electronic voting has been proposed to be considered in Ghana’s electoral process as the country’s digitalization drive expands.
E-voting has also been specified as a way of having free, fair, and transparent elections as well as an initiative that can help address the time factor in queuing to cast vote.
The principal of the SDA College of Education at Koforidua-Asokore, Professor William Kofi Koomson made the call at the school’s SRC elections held last week using the e-voting system for the first time.
He suggested that provisions must also be made to allow the aged and areas without internet to use the manual thumbprint means even if the electronic means is accepted and being used.
He added that e-voting also saves time and also deals with voting maltractpractices as well as chaos and violence.
Ghana since 2017 has undertaken many electronic and digital innovations which have positively affected the activities of many government institutions and other agencies with the current government promising to do more in the digitization drive.
Meanwhile, Mr. Alfred Mensah emerged winner and is now the SRC President of the school after a successful election.
Some students who shared their experiences with the media indicated the exercise was successful and stress-free as compared to the previous manual way of voting.
