Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akyem Akroso, Eastern Region, are expressing discontent over the decision to relocate the voting center for their upcoming parliamentary primaries to Akyem Batabi.
This move has sparked allegations of favoritism towards the incumbent MP George Kwame Aboagye.
According to them, traditionally, Akyem Akroso has been the venue for NPP primaries, including the recent presidential primaries.
Party faithfuls argue that changing the location appears to be a strategic move to benefit the current MP, claiming collusion between the constituency party chairman and the incumbent.
In response, disgruntled members are calling on NPP regional and national executives to swiftly review and reverse the decision.
They warn that any machination to create unfair grounds to defeat their preferred candidate Mr. Alex Owusu Adjei, will be doom for the party as they will force him consider running as an independent candidate, citing widespread support for him in the Asene Akroso Manso constituency.
However, the NPP Chairman for the Asene Akroso Manso constituency, Kojo Effah Sampson, refutes any involvement in the venue selection process.
He assures the party and the media that he will ensure maximum security and uphold fairness during the upcoming primaries, regardless of the chosen location.
The controversy adds a layer of uncertainty to the NPP primaries in the constituency, with members eagerly awaiting the response from higher party authorities.
