A medical practitioner for the Ridge hospital, Dr Gideon Duku has urged Airport staff to enforce screening measures across all the boarders on travellers especially those from China and everyone coming from any part of the world to ensure that the coronavirus is not spread into the country.
Giving details about the disease, Dr Duku said that the Coronavirus is a kind of virus that cannot be seen with our naked eyes but rather a telescope. It can cause upper respiratory infection symptoms like a stuffy nose, cough, and sore throat. It can also cause middle ear infections in children.
With Nana Kwabena Appiah on Dadi FM’s morning show named “Efa wo ho”, the doctor added that most coronaviruses spread through infected people coughing, sneezing and touching an infected person’s hands or face, or by touching things such as doorknobs that infected people have touched.
Advising Ghanaians on how to prevent airborne diseases from spreading, Dr Gideon Duku cautioned people to cover their mouth and nose with handkerchief whenever they cough or sneeze.
“One should wash his or her hand often with soap and warm water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds and we must make sure to keep our hands and fingers away from our eyes, nose, and mouth to help prevent airborne diseases and virus not seen by our naked eyes from spreading”, Dr Duku counselled.
He then urged Ghanaians who are coming into the country or are already in the country to consult their doctors whenever they experienced the aforementioned symptoms and check their blood whether they are infected with the virus or not.
