Despite having seen massive road infrastructural development over the past years, residents of Kyebi in the Abuakwa south municipality are complaining about high cost of living.
According to some residents, cost of living in the community is not different from that of people who stay at other areas in the country.
Speaking to Kwabena Nyarko Abronoma of Bryt fm on Wednesday morning, residents complained of increased in electricity and water tarrifs as well as fuel.
They emphasized that cost of food items have also increased drastically even though Kyebi lies in an environment where farming is predominantly done.
“My brother, it is true that we have good roads but the fact of the matter is that, cost of living is Killing us as others are complaining elsewhere. Our day to day expenses have gone and that is very worrying” a shop owner narrated.
An old aged woman who operates a ‘chop bar’ was also worried about the high cost of food items and other ingredients used for cooking.
She revealed it has subsequently affected the prices of food they sell to go up, a situation making it difficult for people to patronise their services.
“We don’t have any work to do because there is no opportunities available to us. Even though some of our colleagues have gotten enlistment into the various security agencies, the greater part are just roaming in town. That is why most of us are still engaging in galamsey activities to survive” some aggrieved youth told the reporter.
Kyebi, the hometown of President Akufo-Addo has over the years has come under public scrutiny after most roads in the community were asphalted by the former Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta.
