Mr. Richard Kings Atikpo, a renowned football administrator, secured an impressive 16 out of 18 votes, solidifying his position as the region’s representative.
Mr Atikpo’s triumph is notable, considering he faced stiff competition from experienced politicians, including former Deputy Regional Minister of Oti, Mr. Maxwell Qouphy Blagodzi.
Other contenders included Mr. Mohammed Haris, Mr. Joseph Quarshie Akpabi, Mr. Nicholas Kwame Fato, Mr. Calvin Yaw Klabiand Nana.
As the Council of State representative, Mr Atikpo will play a crucial advisory role to the President, as stipulated in articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution.
His vision for the region, as outlined in his manifesto, focuses on key areas such as Politics, Education, Agriculture, Sports Infrastructure and Social Interventions.
Atikpo’s plans include pushing for the establishment of a university in the region, promoting commercial fish farming, and developing sports infrastructure.
He also aims to provide scholarships, support young entrepreneurs, and improve infrastructure development in the region.
With his extensive experience in business and football administration, Atikpo is well-positioned to drive development and growth in the Oti Region. His election as Council of State representative is a significant milestone, and his vision for the region’s future is undoubtedly ambitious.
