A total of 3,063 media personnel and 87,092 members of the public have been vaccinated with the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, under the first phase of the exercise as of March 18, 2021.
The country had already taken delivery of 15,000 doses of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine from Russia but it was not in use presently.
According to Dr. Kwame Amponsa –Achiano, head of programs for Extended Programme on Immunization (EPI) of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), a total of 405,000 persons have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 in the selected Regions so far.
He said 250,368 persons in Accra, 187,510 persons in Kumasi, and 11,293 in the Central Region, have received their first jab, and females formed about 62 percent of the number vaccinated so far.
Dr. Kwame Amponsa –Achiano, said about 63,033 persons with underlying health conditions, 91,000 adults aged 60 and above, about 72,332 health workers, 23,000 front line security personnel, and over 48,000 essential service workers have received their first jab, and more than 12,000 members of the Executive, Judiciary, Legislature, 60,000 teachers aged 60 and above,
Ghana has recorded seven more COVID-19 fatalities, pushing the death toll to 705, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said on Thursday.
The latest update from the GHS indicates that 47 people were in severe condition with 18 in critical condition.
Additionally, 193 new cases of infections have been recorded across the country from tests conducted as of March 13, 2021.
However, 266 more people have recovered since the last update, down-sizing the active cases to 3,621 from a previous 3,701 as of Tuesday, March 16.
