Coronavirus cases in the Eastern Region have risen to 120 as of May 26, 2020, according to data by the Regional Health Directorate.
The 3 new cases were recorded on May 25th and May 26th but not added to a national tally updated Wednesday night.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in lieu added only the 11 old confirmed cases of coronavirus recorded in the Eastern Region from May 20th to May 24th which increased the regional tally to 117.
Mybrytfmonline.com published on May 21, 2020, that the regional case count had reached 117, according to the Regional Health Directorate.
The New Juaben South Municipality (Koforidua, Eastern Regional Capital) recorded its first two (2) confirmed cases a week ago while Birim North District also recorded its first confirmed case same day. This brought to 11 the new confirmed cases within the period.
Other Municipalities and Districts that had recorded cases in the Eastern region are Lower Manya Krobo (70) cases, Asuogyaman (12), Denkyembuor (12), Akuapem North(8), Fanteakwa North (6), and Birim Central (2), Kwahu West (2), Suhum(1) and West Akim(1).
Cases in Lower Manya, Asuogyaman, and West Akyem districts have all recovered.
However, the 11 new cases recorded in the Eastern Region were not being added to the National tally raising serious concern among residents.
But the latest update by GHS last night of Wednesday, May 27, 2020, finally captured the over a week old cases in the region as among 186 new cases of COVID-19, taking the national tally to 7,303.
The total number of people who have recovered from the disease continues to rise as 95 more people have fully recovered increasing the total to 2,412.
Meanwhile, the death toll still stands at 34.
Accra still has the highest number of infections with over 5000 cases with the Ashanti region in a distant second place with a little over 1000 cases.
