Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has received several items from Mondelez International, one of the world’s leading chocolate companies to fight the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease in cocoa communities.
The items, worth Four Hundred and Fifty-Four Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc454,000), include 460 veronica buckets, 460 techy taps, thermometer guns, 3700 liters of hand sanitizers and 2000 pieces of nose masks are meant to ensure the safety of cocoa farmers across the country. The items also include basins, megaphones, and liquid soaps.
Mrs. Yaa Peprah Amekudzi, Country Director for Mondelez International who presented the items to COCOBOD noted that their organization’s operations focus mainly on cocoa farmers and it is therefore important to ensure their safety against the pandemic.
“Cocoa farmers are not just our partners, they also contribute significantly to the economic growth of this country, it is therefore imperative that we support and protect them from this deadly virus.
She was hopeful that the items would go a long way to ensure that cocoa farmers practice all the precautionary measures to stop the spread of the disease.
Dr. Emmanuel Opoku, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Operations, who received the items on behalf of COCOBOD, commended Mondelez International for the gesture in contributing to the health needs of cocoa farmers. He said the pandemic issue was a global problem that must be tackled at all levels to stop its spread.
He implored the farmers to practice all the precautionary measures that put in place by the government to stop further spread. He assured that the items would be given to the various farming communities as intended.
Some farmers who were present to receive the items commended Mondelez and their partners, Child Rights International for the kind gesture.
