The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano Constituency in the Eastern Region Samuel Ayeh-Paye is urging his constituents to eat more traditional food particularly cocoyam leaves stew known locally as ‘nkontomire’, and fruits to boost their immune system against Coronavirus while adhering to the preventive regimes.
Ghana has recorded 1042 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 9 deaths. President Akufo-Addo Sunday lifted the partial lockdown of Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi.
“I want to advise my constituents to accept the fact that the disease has no cure what you can do to fight the virus is to boost your immune system. So I will advise them to well. Eating well doesn’t mean eating plenty of food but rather eat a balanced diet so here we don’t have the salads, the cabbages in abundance what we have is ‘nkotomire’ so I will ask them to eat the ‘nkotomire’, and other fruits.”
The MP said this when he donated 40 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs, quantities of Gumboots and helmets, two boxes of hand gloves, 15 packs of Face masks, 25 handwashing Veronica buckets, 10 thermometer guns, 10 boxes of Joy Dadi manufactured alcohol-based hand sanitizers, 13 hospital beds, and 8 wheelchairs to the Ayensuano District Health Directorate to help fight coronavirus.
The Lawmaker said the items are part of his contributions to helping the Health Directorate prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease to the district which is very deprived.
“The PPEs are what the District Director of Health Services is very happy with it because they found it difficult to protect themselves if somebody comes with a symptom similar to COVID-19. They didn’t have PPEs to get closer to such persons to pick temperature let alone sample so I have brought about 40 of the PPEs. The District didn’t have contactless thermometers what they had been the one they put in their armpit which was safe for health workers this time.”
The MP explained that “Looking at our social and cultural establishments in this district if we are not careful and one person gets infection it would be disastrous for us so I want to appeal to my constituents to be very careful and abide by the rules and regulations of prevention of COVID -19.”
Hence, the MP says he has been embarking on public education in farming communities in the constituency on coronavirus sharing hand washing kits to be placed in vantage areas to encourage frequent hand washing.
The Ayensuano District Health Director, Esther Oku-Afari commended the MP for his relentless support to the fight against the spread of coronavirus to the district.
She said, the District has no Hospital, therefore, relying on Health Centers and CHPs compounds in the fight against the Pandemic hence the items will be distributed to the facilities for the intended purposes.
