The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has explained further the need for more Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) for health workers as the country continues to battle with the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Richard Selormey, an Executive Member of the GMA is of the view that, protection of front line health workers in this time of the deadly outbreak to ensure they are well protected to cater to patients who may need them.
According to the medical practitioner, PPEs are very essential in the protection of health workers and therefore called for more of them as front line staff are been getting infected with the virus, a situation he described as worrying
“There are some PPEs that are immediately changed after attending to a patient. Talking of gloves and face masks, you cannot use one to take care of two patients, so no matter the quantity we have, it gets the finish in no time” Dr. Selormey stressed
Dr. Richard Selormey, however, called for more government support and also appealed to the general public to support donations to the various health facilities across the country to help in the fight against the spread of the virus
On the issue of having to live with the virus, Dr. Selormey supported the government’s earlier call for Ghanaians to abide by the laid down procedures by the health ministry to deal with the spread of the virus
Ghana’s COVID-19 case count raised to 6,486 from the 6,269 on Thursday night as announced last Wednesday.
The latest update according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) represents 217 new cases confirmed in the country.
The update also indicates that 53 more persons have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,951.
As of Friday, May 22, 2020, the death toll remains at 31.
