The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate and the Ghana Health Service have placed Senior High Schools in the Municipality under red alert over Coronavirus after some Schools in the country began recording cases.
According to the Municipal Education Director Mr. Odoi Kweku Williams the Directorate is not taking chances adding that teachers in various schools have been trained while isolation centers created for swift intervention in case there is suspected case.
He said, apart from these, the COVID-19 preventive protocols are strictly being enforced in all five SHSs in the Municipality.
The Municipal Education Director said this when Plan International Ghana through its gender emergency program donated 2,500 pieces of bottled alcohol-based hand sanitizer and 5000 pieces of Nose masks at cost of Ghc25,000 to the Municipal Education Directorate for distribution to students particularly the females.
The Education Director says this will complement items received from the government and distributed to the students.
The Eastern Regional Program Unit Manager of Plan International Kofi Adade Debrah said COVID-19 is the new normal therefore important to live by the dictates of its preventive protocols.
He, therefore, said calls for Senior High Schools to be closed down again is premature rather important to keep the students in school to contain the spread and also take other preventive measures to ensure that other schools that have not recorded any case remain safe.
Mr. Kofi Adade Debrah assured of the NGO’s continuous support to the government to help contain the disease adding that the NGO has already donated Ghc50,000 to the Covid-19 Fund established by the government and has further given Ghc20,000 to the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection to support the vulnerable.
Apart from these, the NGO has donated Veronica hand washing buckets, sanitizer to all health facilities in its three operational areas-Okere, Akuapem North, and Upper Manya Krobo.
Also, twenty- four (24) girls trained in sewing nose masks and sanitary pads, have each been given start-up capital and sewing machine.
