The Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Upper West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Francis Bonsi has urged the Government to Consider media houses who have dedicated their air time for public education and frequent update on the Pandemic COVID-19 in all Incentive packages from the state.
According to him, the 50 percent reduction of electricity bills for the media houses is not enough because they are part of Frontline workers in this crisis period.
Commenting on Government measures introduced to support Ghanaians and the Economy in the COVID-19 era, Mr. Francis Bonsi lauded the creation of the GH¢1.2 billion Coronavirus Alleviation Programme to support households and businesses.
He said media houses which are losing advertisement at this period must give Tax holiday in an exchange of air time for public education in all Languages on the deadly disease daily to curb the spread.
Mr. Francis Bonsi commended the media for been proactive in this crisis period and suspension of active political debate to join the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
The NDC spokesman called on Government to use this outbreak to change the strengthen local companies to end importation of goods and services and called for a change in Ghana Education syllabus to change the mindset of Schoolchildren over foreign goods.
He also lauded leaders and members of the NDC for supporting the government at this period and expressed appreciation to Mr. John Dramani Mahama for dedicating his time and money as well as Technical Team to join the fight.
