More healthcare workers have tested positive for covid-19 at Begoro District government Hospital in the Eastern region.
A total of about 50 healthcare workers have been infected since 2020 at the hospital fortunately no death was recorded.
The rate of infection is quite alarming during this third wave raising concerns among the healthcare workers.
“Government has simply been joking with this covid thing. Our emergency units are getting filled up with patients coming in with difficulties in breathing. Most of our staff have tested positive for COVID-19. The few of us who were not even allowed to test are overworking. We have had to simply watch people die cuz there’s no oxygen even at the regional hospitals. The painful aspect is that patients are not even testing or sometimes some even die before their results come back. We are compelled to keep COVID-19 patients in general wards because ICUs and Emergency units are filled up. Referrals are almost impossible because the bigger hospitals are all full. It’s a silent mess we’ve found ourselves but hospital managers are afraid to speak up. The COVID-19 protocols are simply disregarded but no one cares” a staff at Begoro Hospital claimed.
The staff continued “45 samples were tested this week, 26 came in positive, out of which 21 were health workers, and 5 were patients. I am compelled to write this because I had to simply watch a patient die. After all, the regional hospital could not take him in. It’s really painful”.
Fanteakwa North had a total of 33 active cases as of July 25, 2021.
A total of 1069 health workers in the Eastern region have so far been infected with six(6) fatalities recorded.
The Eastern Regional Hospital for instance has suspended all internal meetings and gatherings following increasing Covid-19 infections among the staff of the hospital.
The decision by management is to help reduce the rate of spread of the virus.
The staff of the hospital has also been asked to treat all patients as potential Covid-19 carriers and protect themselves accordingly for their safety
Covid-19 cases in the region as of July 25, 2021, stood at 4795 with 85 deaths.
