About 40 percent of Electricity Consumers in the West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region are expected to benefit from free electricity bills for three months which forms part of relief interventions by the state amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The beneficiaries are those who fall within the lifeline consumption from 0 to 50-kilowatt hours per month (¢19.26p bill monthly).
This was announced by Eastern Regional Marketing Officer of ECG, Mr. Abraham Lincoln during a public education program in Asamankese on the Government Relief.
Mr. Abraham Lincoln said there are over 23,000 meters of Electricity Company of Ghana in the Municipality and about 40% are lifeline consumers and the relief begins in April to June 2020 and charged Consumers to conserve energy to reduce their bills to enjoy the package accordingly.
Recently, President Nana Akufo-Addo said ” “We have decided further measures of mitigation for Ghanaians for the next three months… The government will fully absorb electricity bills for the poorest of the poor, i.e.: lifeline consumers. This will cover persons who consume 0 to 50-kilowatt hours per month for this period. This forms part of relief interventions by the state amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. Other categories of consumers will enjoy a 50 percent discount within the same period. For all other consumers, residential and commercial, the government will absorb 50 percent of your electricity bill for this period using your March 2020 bill as the benchmark,” he noted.
This, the president explained that, if your electricity bill in March was GHC100.00, you will be paying GHC50.00 “with government absorbing the remaining GHC50.00’.
