It seems the activities of food vendors and drinking spots have been left out in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus outbreak in Ghana.
Even though their activities are essential in our everyday lives, the needed attention seems not to be the best in the wake of the worldly pandemic.
President Akufo-Addo in a live broadcast on Sunday evening ordered for the closure of schools, as well as urged churches and other institutions to desist from crowding up as a way of dealing with the spread of the disease.
Following his order, most churches and other religious bodies have heed to it thereby, suspended activities for at least a month.
Meanwhile, the activities of food vendors and drinking spots remain a challenge as they are still operating without any well-organized measures, posing a great danger to their customers.
Some drinking spots visited saw attendants serving with glasses been used by many people without proper rinsing after each use while there are no provision of water nor sanitizers for customers to use.
Also, most food vendors have failed to provide a means for running water to enable people who come to eat wash their hands with soap even before eating.
They continue to use bowls which does not allow the water to run off after customers wash their hands, a situation likely to cause the spread of the virus should in case one person has it.
The government had earlier directed all institutions to make available “Veronica” buckets with soap and sanitizers for the use by their customers but it is yet to be applied by food vendors and drinking spots whose activities are essential to people’s health.
Ghana has so far confirmed seven (7) cases of COVD-19; just some days after the first two confirmations were made by the government.
