The Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong has stated that the crime rate has dropped in the region.
He said generally, there is improvement in the security situation with a significant reduction in armed robbery attacks due to the security measures put in place.
“There is a full proof of security in the region but we have some appreciable level of comfort in respect of public safety. Put together which areas of our security life in the region, we are recording some appreciable data that is encouraging in terms of armed robbery, in terms of normal thievery as well as accidents and at the same time disputes within our traditional neighbourhoods. The tensions are going down”.
The Minister said this in Koforidua when speaking to journalists at the sidelines of a solemn memorial day held at the forecourt of the Eastern Regional Police Command on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 for Seven(7) police officers with the Regional Police Command killed in the line of duty from 2016 to 2022
The slain officers are General Constable Chris Quarshie with Koforidua Division died in 2021, General Corporal Nathaniel Afriyie Marfo and General Lance corporal Balatinang Katapranang Kwasi, both at Nkawkaw division died in 2017 and 2021 respectively.
The rest are Lance Corporal Alhassan Asare, and General Lance corporal Joseph Yankey all stationed at Akyem Oda division were killed in 2019 and 2020 respectively, General Sargent William Seworkpor and General Sargent Moses Tetteh Nartey both stationed at Asamankese Division died in 2016 and 2021 respectively.
Some members of the bereaved families present could not hold back their tears as they relived the painful death of their beloved ones.
Wreaths were laid by the Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Regional Commander DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackah, MCE for New Juaben North Comfort Asante and the bereaved families.
Some members of the bereaved families urged the Police administration to facilitate justice and financial entitlement due them to at least console them.
The Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong expressed the deepest condolences of the government to the bereaved families.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of Police personnel in the region in protecting lives and property keeping the region relatively peaceful.
