Ghana ambassador to Egypt, H.E Dr Nii Okine Hammond is confident the current Black Stars team can end the country’s continental trophy drought.
The Black Stars Africa Cup of Nations trophy drought has prolonged for 38 years and according to Mr Okine, he sees the current squad of winning Ghana’s fifth trophy.
He made this remarks when he visited the team at camp ahead of their 2021 AFCON qualifier against Sudan.
Ghana has come close to ending the trophy drought in the last decade, 2010 Angola losing to Egypt in the finals and in 2015 Equatorial Guinea- Gabon as the Stars lost to Ivory Coast on a penalty shootout.
“I’m very impressed with how far you have come because I was checking the records and so far you have not conceded any goal. You’ve played three matches, I’m not talking about losing, you’ve not conceded a goal and I think that should inspire you that this is likely to be the team to bring us the fifth Cup of Nations trophy” he said.
‘I think we should set our target higher because we are almost there but we have to finish hard. I stand on behalf of the President who is a football enthusiast to tell you to go out there undefeated” he said.
