An environmentalist and health expert, Mr. David Agbey, has advised the public to remain calm and follow established safety procedures whenever bees invade homes or public spaces, warning that failure to do so could lead to serious injuries or death.
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee mu Nsem, Mr. Agbey explained that during God’s creation, all living things—from humans to animals, birds, and insects—were created with both positive and negative impacts on human life. He noted that while bees can pose danger when provoked, they are also highly beneficial, especially through honey, which is widely used for nutrition and medicinal purposes to help heal certain diseases.
Mr. Agbey stated that bees were among the first creatures created by God and stressed that their presence should not always be seen as a curse. However, when bees become aggressive and begin to disturb human life, people must act quickly to protect themselves.
According to him, the first step during a bee attack is to run and seek shelter immediately. He warned that anyone who fails to escape risks being attacked by swarms, which can result in severe injuries or even death. He added that in the past, such incidents often led to fatalities due to the absence of hospitals and ambulance services, but today, victims have a better chance of survival if they receive prompt medical attention.
Mr. Agbey, therefore, urged the public to immediately call emergency paramedics or rush victims to the nearest hospital for treatment. He also emphasized the need to alert the Ghana National Fire Service through their emergency numbers whenever bees invade a community.
Additionally, he said Environmental Health Officers, who are present in every town, as well as chiefs and assembly members, should be informed to help coordinate a proper response. He explained that once the Fire Service, Health Service, and Environmental Health Officers handle the situation professionally, the bees are unlikely to return to the area.
Mr. Agbey cautioned that ignoring the right procedures could result in repeated attacks, putting lives at risk, and called on the public to prioritize safety and report such incidents promptly.
