General Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former head of the Ghanaian military’s defense staff, has supported the calls for the exclusion of pensioner investments from the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
The retired military commander was in Parliament to show solidarity with bondholders who are pensioners and present to hear the finance minister speak.
The former Chief of Defence Staff stated that it is unfair to require retirees to foot the bill for the government’s poor economic management in an interview with Citi News.
“Until you have gone through the mill, you will not understand pensioners. Pensioners who have worked and saved money for when they retire are now being asked to pay for government’s mismanagement.”
“This is totally wrong, the money belongs to the Pensioners. Government cannot come demanding it against their will” he said.
