The Rebecca Foundation, through the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and Roche, has launched the Capacity Building for Breast and Cervical Cancers in Ghana.
It is to help reduce breast and cervical cases and mortalities.
The initial project areas are the West Gonja, Birim South, and Sekyere South districts, and involves the training of more than 90 health workers who will be able to screen and treat early-stage cervical cancers with Thermal Coagulation Machines.
In 2020, an estimated 4,400 cases of breast cancer and 2,797 cases of cervical cancer were recorded. Almost half of them died. These can be significantly reduced through healthy lifestyles, screening, early detection, and treatment.
