The District Chief Executive nominee for Achiase in the Eastern Region has been rejected by the Assembly.
The renominated DCE, Richmond Kofi Amponsah who is Dean of Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Eastern region secured 13 out of 22 valid votes cast in a confirmation election conducted by the Electoral Commission on Monday, September 27, 2021.
The renomination of the DCE who is an Elder of The Church of Pentecost was greeted with protest within the ruling New Patriotic Party in the constituency.
A group calling itself CITEG Ghana petitioned the NPP party not to renominate the DCE stating that he is incompetent and divisive.
According to the group, the actions and inactions of the DCE affected the NPP’s electoral fortunes in the 2020 General Elections.
After his renomination, another group calling itself the Concerned Youth of Achiase also emerged kicking against President Akufo Addo’s decision to renominate him as DCE.
They accused him of lacking vision, retrogressing development, and gross insubordination in the district.
Meanwhile, the DCE nominee for Birim South district and Okere District Asare Danso, and Kenneth Daniel Addo both secured 100%votes respectively.
Kyemansa district assembly also confirmed renominated DCE Paul Asamoah with 100% votes.
Confirmation of the 33 MDCEs nominees in the Eastern region commenced on Monday.
Confirmation for New Juaben South, Atiwa West, Kwahu East, and Kwahu South will be done today Tuesday, September 28, 2021.
A total of 25 out of the 33 nominees are incumbent MDCEs. Assemblies such as Fanteakwa South, Upper Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo, Abuakwa South, Abuakwa South, Afram Plains North, Afram Plains South, and Atiwa West had new nominees.
