The youth of Akyem New Tafo Zongo, supported by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are calling for justice following a shooting incident during the recent elections.
Three young men were reportedly shot by alleged National Security Operatives alleged to be bodyguards of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Chief Buffalo.
The incident has left the community devastated, with widespread condemnation and demands for accountability. A youth spokesperson stated,Sulemana Awudu addressing the media called for arrest of Ernest Akomea alias Double for leading 7 other national security operatives to shoot at the people.
“We will not rest until justice is served. Our brothers were innocent victims of violence and intimidation, and those responsible must be held accountable.”
Sulemana Awudu, also known as Don Sly, gave troubling history of violence against NDC members in the constituency, referencing a 1996 incident involving the assault of an NDC member, Alhaji Commander, alongside the firing of gunshots.
He noted that the current shooting incident is part of a recurring pattern of violence and intimidation.
The community has called on Inspector-General of Police George Akufo Dampare, the Eastern Regional Police Command, and the Abuakwa North Municipal Police Command to arrest a suspects.
Gershon Katsekpor, the NDC’s deputy treasurer, claimed to have seen “Double” armed during the elections and suspects his involvement in the attack.
The NDC has pledged full support for the victims and their families, urging authorities to take swift action to ensure justice.
