As Ghana’s December elections draw near, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is cautioning the public against electoral malfeasance in whatever form.
He emphasized that the full weight of the law will be applied to anyone found guilty of such activities.
The comments were given by Dr. Dampare on Friday, November 15, at the launching of a new police station in the Eastern Region’s Akyem-Manso.
He told the populace that the police force is ready to guarantee a peaceful election by laying out procedures for identifying and resolving any possible disturbances before they become more serious.
“Don’t be lured into creating confusion during the polls because my people will not spare you. Don’t forget that the people who will lure you to create confusion will switch off their phones when you are arrested. They will simply abandon you,” he warned.
The IGP also urged Ghanaians to respect the democratic process and the rights of others, stressing the significance of peacefully exercising one’s right to vote.
Additionally, Dr. Dampare informed the public that the police are totally dedicated to upholding law and order, guaranteeing a safe atmosphere for free and fair elections.
“We are fully prepared, and I can assure you that the elections will be peaceful,” Dr. Dampare affirmed, calling on all Ghanaians to support efforts to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
