The Member of Parliament for Asene/Manso/Akroso Constituency in the Eastern Region who doubles as Vice Chairman for Lands and Forestry Committee in Parliament, Honourable George Kwame Aboagye has called for Decentralization of Minerals Commission Office to join the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
He noted that the Decentralization of Minerals Commission Office will also generate funds for Assemblies and Central Government.
In an interview with Accra-based radio station, Honourable George Kwame Aboagye expressed worry over inadequate staff at the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission and called for the recruitment of staff to join the Forestry Commission and Government team to monitor activities of certified miners to flash out the illegal activities.
The MP, who also serve in Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee and Environment, Science and Technology Committee said there are a lot of graduates who are seeking for job and stressed on the need for the Government to take it as matter of urgency to engage them as Inspectors to support the Mineral Commission and the Government to fight illegal mining.
Honorable George Kwame Aboagye said the Country can only win the fight if all major stakeholders play their role and called on the Minerals Commission to collaborate with the Internal Revenue Authority to identity all certified miners to pay their taxes to support the nation-building.
The Lawmaker lauded the Forestry Commission for their Tree Planting Program and said such move must continue to protect the Land been destroyed in Mining areas.
