The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for New Juaben South Isaac Appaw Gyasi has said, the impending decongestion exercise scheduled to take effect after February ending in the Municipality would restore discipline and orderliness.
According to the MCE, the impunity at which people operate in the Municipality will be a thing of the past.
The MCE said this during a town hall meeting with stakeholders on the impending decongestion exercise being championed by the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong.
The participants include pragia riders, transport unions, clergy, hawkers, market women, traders among others.
The participants signed undertakings in agreement to the decongestion exercise and pledged their corporation.
Isaac Appaw Gyasi told Bryt FM after the meeting that “For the past four months, consistently we have had what we called sensitization, we have met market women, market queens, transport unions, store owners associations, the chiefs and almost everybody in this municipality can attest that a lot of education has gone on”.
He added “So we are going to maintain the sensitization, work of this nature you cannot take it for granted because you are dealing with a human institution and continuously when people are educated, they get informed and the right things are done and it is on that basis that the municipal assembly new Juaben south Koforidua to be precise under my able leadership we will continue to educate the people, and you saw how they contributed to the program.
The fact that when you make people understand your policy they begin to conform and they have all undertakings to abide by the rules and regulations put in place”
Responding to some concerns by the participants that, the Central market must be reconstructed into a modern edifice to accommodate more traders, the MCE said, the passage of the e-levy will enable the project to come into fruition.
“I think that gradually we are making progress, the reconstruction of Koforidua central market is on the course, we operate under the able leadership of Hon. Dan Botwe who is our sector minister, minister of local government.
We have put in the necessary applications just like how the Kejetia market has been constructed and how the Takoradi market has been constructed as well and so we are going to have the Koforidua market constructed at the appropriate time. We need to go through a process and that application has been made, am sure it has received the fullest of attention under the able leadership of H.E Nana Akuffo Addo a lot of markets are being constructed and Koforidua is going to be one of them” the MCE said.
He added that “So we just have to make sure we follow due process and that is the more reason why the passage of the E- levy is more important, I think that if we are going to mobilize funds from within to develop our country, it is something that we all need to support so the reconstruction of Koforidua market is on a course at the right time it is going to be done”
The Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong who was at the meeting said deployment for the decongestion will soon start.
