Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, Government Statistician, has said the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has not received any official petition from enumerators on the increase of allowances and described their demands as “Social media Communications”.
According to him, enumerators were giving conditions of service and they signed individually, adding that, the GSS advertised the recruitment of office and Field supervisors and enumerators and they applied and were recruited base on requirements.
Addressing the media in Accra, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, said their remuneration for the entire exercise, (which is Gh¢2,520 each for enumerators and GHC2,950 each for supervisors) is justifiable since it is in the public domain and taxpayers money will be used to pay them.
He called on enumerators to take along their Health Insurance cards in case of emergency and vowed that the Statistical Service will not leave any enumerator mainstream should in case of an accident, snake, or dog bite.
Over 67,419 enumerators have been deployed across the country to physically count, virtually, everybody and structures in a national population and housing census.
Field Officers are demanding Health and Risk allowances and an increase in their remuneration from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The coalition, which includes enumerators and supervisors, wants their remuneration increased from an expected GHC2,520, and GHC2,950 to GHC3,500 and GHC4,000 respectively.
The exercise, which will run till July 11, 2021, is meant to generate data that will be used in decision-making and planning for the development of the country and its citizens.
