Denmark and INTERPOL organised a 4-day training on physical security of port infrastructure last week.
The training focused on port access control; port facility and physical security design; explosive recognition, among others.
Participants were selected from various maritime law enforcement agencies in Ghana, Togo, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria.
It is Denmarkâs hope that with the skills acquired, the trained officers will be able to detect smuggled drugs, weapons and other contraband materials at the ports.
Alongside this specialised training, participants were also introduced to an INTERPOL e-learning module on “human rights considerations for law enforcement” – a critical component of Danish funded projects.
The training was funded under Phase 3 of the Danish Maritime Security Programme.
