President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned a state-of-the-art Foreign Service Institute (FSI) building for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra.
In his address, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that the establishment of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) reflects the recognition of the crucial role diplomacy plays in maintaining regional, continental, and global stability in promoting peaceful resolutions to conflicts. He added that the world today is at the brink of a new global order, which hopefully is being shaped by democrats and cooperative culture underlined by friendly partnership with the potential to contribute to human development.
President Akufo-Addo further added that “diplomats are at the forefront of shaping the new world order, and it is my expectation that at the FSI, some great talents will be nurtured and positioned to help Ghana stay deeply connected to this emerging new world order”
The President reiterated his Government’s commitment to fostering diplomacy and cultivating international relations by equipping diplomats with the requisite skills to navigate the complexity of the ever-changing global landscape. He also commended former Ghanaian diplomats for their contribution to Ghana’s diplomacy and announced that they will be invited to share their rich experiences and knowledge with young Foreign Service Officers.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey commended the President for his commitment to the advancement and growth of Ghana’s Foreign Service and its Officers and the enhancement of Ghana’s influence in the international arena. Hon. Botchwey noted that the establishment of the FSI will play a pivotal role in empowering Ghanaian diplomats to navigate global challenges, build alliances, and foster mutual understanding between Ghana and the world.
Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey emphasised that the FSI embodies the Government’s dedication to fostering excellence in diplomacy and enhancing Ghana’s international relations. She further stated that “the establishment of the Institute, reinforces the commitment to equipping Ghanaian diplomats with the necessary knowledge, skills, and training to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development”. She added that the Institute would not only serve Ghanaian Foreign Service Officers but would also be home to many foreign diplomats who would have the opportunity to study at the Institute alongside their Ghanaian counterparts.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Amb. Ramses Cleland expressed the Ministry’s appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for his vision, insight and personal commitment to the FSI project, from its inception to completion.
Amb. Cleland assured that the facility would be equipped and maintained to meet international standards, and positioned as a center of excellence in the sub-region and beyond for both Ghanaians and international students. He was hopeful that the FSI will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the country’s diplomats, and contribute to Ghana’s development agenda through effective international engagement made possible through proper training.
The Foreign Service Institute consists of a computerised modern library, an e-conference facility, computer laboratories, student lounges, an auditorium, a lecture room, a VIP lounge, and a spacious cafeteria.
