Official ceremony commencing the municipal level Junior High School Games and Athletics Competition for the 2024/2025 academic year in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern region held successfully at the Koforidua Youth Development Resource Center.
To kick start the competition, an opening ceremony was performed led by the Municipal Director of Education Mustapha Haruna Appiah on 19th March , 2025 and is expected to be climaxed on Friday 21st March 2025.
The competition was categorized into the various sports disciplines such as soccer, volleyball, netball , athletics ,long jump, javelin , high jump, etc hosting schools from all six circuits in the municipality.
Addressing the gathering to mark the opening of the three days competition, the Municipal Director of Education Mustapha Haruna Appiah noted that this year’s Junior High School Games and Athletics Competition is a testament to the directorate commitment to administer a holistic education where sports and academics go hand in hand to develop well-rounded students.
The Director highlighted in his address saying “sports play a crucial role in shaping the live of young people , it instills discipline, teamwork, perseverance and leadership skills that are essential for personal and national development”
“Through this competition, we are not only identifying talents but also nurturing future champions who may one day represent our country on national and international platforms”
“we shouldn’t describe sport men and women as people who are not good academically but rather we should help them to unearth their talents so that they will develop their God given talents whether in the classroom or outside the classroom” he encouraged the students.
Additionally, the Director urged the young athletes to approach the competition with passion , determination and fairness and to remember that true sportsmanship is about respect , hard work and integrity.
Meanwhile , sports executives in the municipality appealed for sponsorships from companies , philanthropist and individuals in the municipality to encourage and motivate the development of grassroot sports at the junior high school level.
