The Eastern Regional Health Directorate has said District hospitals have been set up to manage severe cases of Dengue Fever outbreak.
Measures putting in place to manage the fever includes; Meetings with key stakeholders,
•Key messages for education developed by National, Regional and District team
•Key messages shared with affected districts and adjoining districts
•Risk communication strategy for affected districts developed and initiated
•Districts intensified risk communication to get all people in affected districts informed
•Advocacy to ensure all individuals adhere to safety protocols to minimize mosquito
bites
•Engagement with health facilities on risk communication
•Media briefing organized by the Regional Health Directorate.
As at 17th July 2024 in the Region,Total positive lab results stands at 45,Total negative lab results –93 and Total lab results pending 91.
A release from the Regional Health Directorate indicated that Districts have been supported with some logistics for sample collection and case managementi.e. EDTA vacutainer tubes, IV fluids, Paracetamol
•Liaising with Public Health Division to get additional logistics to support districts
in case management and sample collection
•Engagement with NMEP to guide in vector control.
In addition,•National and Regional Team will continue to support affected districts
•Training of clinicians on case management to be organized as soon as possible and Need to mobilize a vehicle for Birim South to support outbreak response.
The Health Directorate is expected to set up treatment centers within districts without hospital if there is a surgeon severe cases, Risk communication to be intensified using all communication channels to ensure behavioral change towards staying safe from insect bites and Dengue fever, Continued surveillance on Dengue Fever in all health facilities and communities.
The release called on persons with acute febrile illness of 2-7 days duration with 2 or more of the following: headache, retroorbital pain, myalgia, arthralgia, rash, hemorrhagic
manifestations, leucopenia and anyone confirmed for malaria either with RDT or Blood film for MPs who has
completed three-day course of antimalarial and still not doing well to report to the District Hospitals for Laboratory test.
