Mr. John Anim Peprah, the Dormaa Ahenkro Station Supervisor of VRA-NEDCo, has issued a cautionary advisory to VRA-NEDCo customers, urging them to abstain from conducting any business transactions over the telephone with third-parties to avoid falling victim to fraud.
He emphasized that VRA-NEDCo does not engage in business transactions via mobile phones, except within their official premises.
He highlighted that certain unscrupulous individuals are deceiving people by purporting to offer VRA-NEDCo emergency services, such as the provision of meters and other electricity-related services, for which payments are solicited through mobile money transfers.
Mr. Peprah underscored the importance of receiving official receipts for any payments made to VRA officials for services rendered, and reiterated that it is against their protocol to conduct business over mobile phones or solicit payments through mobile money transfers.
He has, therefore, issued a stern warning to public, particularly VRA-NEDCo customers, to refrain from engaging in business transactions over mobile phones with anyone claiming to represent VRA-NEDCo outside of their official offices.
He stated that the management of VRA-NEDCo is undertaking investigations to clamp down on unscrupulous individuals who have been defrauding people under the guise of VRA-NEDCo.
He emphasized the factors contributing to the rising incidence of fraud cases within their services, noting how many Ghanaians prioritize their work over other equally significant obligations.
He observed that many landlords delegate their tenants, children, or trusted electricians to follow up with the processes to acquire meters and other VRA services, which often exposes them to fraudsters. He acknowledged previous delays in VRA-NEDCo’s services to customers but noted that efforts have been intensified to ensure timely completion of services, thereby averting purported emergency services from others intended to defraud individuals.
