Deputy Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Upper West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Osafo Abednego has expressed worry over continues neglect of Teachers welfare by successive government and called on Teacher Unions declare strike on Teaching and learning materials as well but not on their Salary arrears alone.
According to him, despite progress made in the Education sector so far, still, most pupils lack furniture, classroom and other teaching and learning materials which have been affecting Teachers and Future Leaders of the Country.
Commenting on the strike action declared by three Teacher Unions in the Country over Legacy arrears, Mr. Osafo Abednego, who doubles as a Teacher under the Ghana Education Service, said called on leadership of the Teacher Unions to be continue fighting for their members and avoid political interference, adding, the is the need to also think for the students and pupil who are future leaders of the Country.
He urged the Teacher unions in the country to continue fighting for the provision of Teaching and learning materials as well as good condition of service for Ghanaian Teachers.
The Teacher expressed worry over the retirement package for Teachers and neglect of retired Teachers by the state and urged the government to invest in Teachers to encourage the youth to go into Teaching.
