President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang have been urged by Speaker of parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to uphold the overwhelmingly positive mandate that Ghanaians have bestowed upon them by working diligently and devotedly.
Bagbin praised the pair for their overwhelming victory in the general elections held on December 7 and reminded them of the heavy burden they have to live up to the expectations of the voters.
“I applaud the president-elect, his excellency John Dramani Mahama and the vice president-elect her Excellency, Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang for scoring an emphatic victory and a heavy mandate of Ghanaians at the just-ended general elections. I need not remind anyone of the saying that to whom, much is given, much is expected.”
Bagbin reminded the recently elected leaders that the electorate has overwhelmingly supported the campaign’s main pledge to reset Ghana. He emphasized that there is a high anticipation that this enormous backing would yield measurable outcomes.
“Your promise to reset Ghana has been massively endorsed by the voters, and you cannot afford to disappoint them,” Bagbin added.
As a vital gatekeeper in protecting the integrity of the implementation of the promised changes, the Speaker of Parliament also conveyed confidence that the legislature would be a trustworthy partner in guaranteeing the Mahama administration’s success.
“I trust Parliament will be a reliable partner and a gatekeeper to ensure a just delivery of that promise.”
