Dental Technician at the Asamankese Government Hospital in the Eastern Region, Mr.Joshua Nyarko has said Two minutes is the recommended duration for a tooth brushing session and warned that there is no need to rise the mouth with water after brushing the teeth.
He said anything shorter than 2 minutes does not give the fluoride in your toothpaste enough time to attach to the enamel in your tooth enamel.
Speaking at a durbar in Asamankese to mark 2024 World Oral Health Day, Mr. Joshua Nyarko called on Ghanaians to
Change their toothbrush every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles start to bend or fray because Frayed or broken bristles won’t clean your mouth properly, adding, after a couple of months of daily use – bacteria and food particles begin to accumulate on the toothbrush.
Mr. Nyarko stressed on the need for Ghanaians to make their oral health a priority which includes the teeth and gums, both of which require regular care to avoid cavities, infections, and other issues.
He added that Dental and oral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being and Poor oral hygiene can lead to dental cavities and gum disease, and has also been linked to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
As part of the Oral Health Day celebration, the Dental Department of the Asamankese Government Hospital moved to the central business center of the District for free screening and education and distributed toothbrushes and pastes from sponsors to people who joined them for the celebration.
