Students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) have cautioned managements of the institutions not to ignore their plea on the online examination communique released on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
According to the release, the academic calendar won’t change though lectures have changed due to the pandemic Covid-19 and assured that more days would be added to the revision week to enable students to prepare for the online examination.
These among much other information have gotten students furious and are sending their plea through the student representative body.
According to them, management should rather wait until the virus outbreak is over to conduct the examination.
On their numerous social media pages like WhatsApp and telegram, some students advised the management not to imitate any school.
According to some students, the school should not take it as if it is a competition in this pandemic era and advised them to take their time when making some decisions.
“The whole world will understand that at a point in time everything came to a standstill. What is happening now in some way is an act of God so let us allow it to be. I believe in the school postponing the rest of the activities left on the calendar otherwise we will force to do things and in the end, nothing will be in our heads but will be bragging that we have graduated.” A student lamented.
“There was nothing like online examination on our admission forms. I majority of us have bad internet connections. Some of us find it difficult to even type on our phones cos we have cracked screens. The amount of money I have spent on bundle over this few weeks is outrageous. Frankly speaking, I’m broke now. Some of our colleagues have to call us after every online session so you can explain to them.” A student cried out.
Some also see the school’s management decision as a way of impressing the first gentleman of the land. “I don’t know why GIJ management is trying at all cost to impress the President. You haven’t provided smartphones and data for students, yet you want to conduct online exams. Students must prepare for an online demonstration.”
Initially, when GIJ decided to lecture online, students immediately pleaded with them to just let it be only for lectures but not a medium to write exams as they struggle to submit assignments online.
But luck not being by their side I guess didn’t push through.
Some of the GIJ students see these decisions by the school management as an unfair decision; some are also swimming with the schools’ decision but requesting them to provide them internet data to accomplish what the communique entails.
“If the school will be providing data and will be communicating with this network people not to jam the network during that period de3 aaaa then it’s cool.”
