A senior campaign member for former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says the governing philosophy behind the minister’s campaign is to use education as a powerful tool to lift Ghanaians out of poverty,an idea he says is backed by real life success stories.
Speaking in an interview on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, he explained that throughout Dr. Adutwum’s campaign tours across the country, one recurring observation has been the persistence of poverty in many communities.
“Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s campaign message is that throughout his campaign tours, what he continues to see is that poverty still hangs over many Ghanaians. He believes that when given the mandate, he will eradicate poverty through education,” he said.
According to him, Dr. Adutwum has already demonstrated this philosophy through personal interventions long before seeking higher political office. He disclosed that the former Education Minister has supported 150 students to complete various engineering programmes, directly changing the economic fortunes of several families.
Citing one example, Mr. Opoku Amponsah highlighted the transformation of Jennifer, a young woman from Bedaase. “When Dr. Adutwum met her, she was working as a roadside credit transfer vendor. He took it upon himself to sponsor her through a Mining Engineering programme, and today she is employed at AngloGold. As a young, unmarried woman earning GH₵20,000 a month, has she not lifted her entire family out of poverty?” he noted.
He also recounted another story of a boy Dr. Adutwum discovered in JHS 2, whom he sponsored through Opoku Ware SHS and later the University for Development Studies to study Medicine. “Just two months ago, the Ghana Medical and Dental Council issued him his professional license as a medical doctor. This is a boy whose mother used to sell onions by the roadside. With his qualifications and career today, will he allow his mother to continue selling onions by the roadside? If your answer is ‘no,’ then it simply means poverty has been eradicated from that household,” he added.
Mr. Opoku Amponsah stressed that these stories are not isolated cases but part of a broader vision that Dr. Adutwum intends to scale nationally if entrusted with leadership. He said the inspiring results have already convinced delegates who have heard the message on the ground.
“So when Dr. Adutwum says he will eradicate poverty when he comes into power, the delegates understand him and they have accepted his message,” he concluded.
