The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has issued a stern warning to the Electoral Commission (EC) and the government, cautioning them against underrating anger and frustration of the youth in the country.
Speaking to a large gathering of NDC supporters, Dr. Kevor emphasized that those present represent the frustration and dissatisfaction of Ghanaians due to poor governance.
He dismissed attempts to instill fear of coups, stating, “Many of us know much about coups, and that is why we are serving a caution that nobody can frighten us with a coup.” He further warned against underestimating the peace of the country, saying, “Nobody should underrate the peace of the country and think there cannot be unrest here.”
Dr. Kevor explained that the frustration of Ghanaian youth across various professions, including those with advanced degrees, noting that they are “all at their wit’s end” due to the current state of the country.
He warned that the government and the EC should not take the public for granted, especially in light of recent electoral issues.
Citing irregularities in the transfer of voters, Dr. Kevor expressed concern about the EC’s handling of the voters’ register. “About 250,000 voters have been transferred from their original polling stations to different ones. This is what the EC has done,” he said.
He added that the NDC is now “wide awake and extra vigilant” and will closely monitor and expose any further actions by the EC that undermine the electoral process.
Dr. Kevor’s remarks reflect growing concerns within the NDC over what they view as attempts to manipulate the upcoming elections. The party has vowed to remain vigilant in safeguarding the integrity of the polls.
